Privacy policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
Salawat helps you keep track of your five daily prayers. This policy explains what the app stores, why, and how you can delete it. In short: we keep only what's needed to run the app, we never sell your data, and we don't show ads or use trackers.
What we store
Your account. Your email address and your password. The password is stored only as a secure one-way hash, so nobody, including us, can read it.
Your settings. Such as your calculation method, reminder preferences, language and the location you choose for prayer times (its coordinates, time zone and place name).
Your prayer history. Which prayers you mark as prayed and when, so it syncs between your devices. Because it can reveal your religious practice, we treat it as sensitive: it's used only to run the app and never shared for any other purpose.
Technical data. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and request times, for a short period for security and reliability. Your IP address is also used briefly to limit repeated sign-in attempts.
What stays on your phone
Prayer times, reminders and the Qibla direction are calculated on your device. Reminders are local notifications scheduled by your phone; we don't send push notifications. If you let Salawat use your location, it's read on your phone and only the coordinates are saved in your settings. Your location isn't tracked over time.
How we use it
Only to run Salawat: to sign you in, keep your settings and history in sync across your devices, and email you a code if you forget your password. We don't use your data for advertising, profiling or anything else.
Who processes it
We use these service providers to run the app. They process data only on our behalf and under their own security and privacy terms:
- Render hosts our server (Frankfurt, Germany).
- MongoDB Atlas stores the database (on Amazon Web Services in Frankfurt, Germany).
- Resend sends password reset emails.
- Apple distributes the app. Apple may share anonymous app statistics and crash reports with us if you've chosen to share them in your iPhone's settings.
We don't sell, rent or share your data with anyone else, unless the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data while you have an account. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your account, settings and prayer history from our servers. Password reset codes expire after 15 minutes.
You can also export your prayer history from Settings → Account, or email us to ask for a copy, a correction or deletion of your data.
Security
All connections use HTTPS. Passwords are hashed, sign-in tokens are stored in your phone's secure keychain, and repeated sign-in attempts are limited.
Children
Salawat is suitable for all ages and collects nothing beyond what's described here. If you believe a child created an account without a parent's knowledge, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the app.
